Tour Description

Leaving Edinburgh we head to Loch Lomond through the Stirlingshire countryside taking in the views of Stirling Castle. We will have a short stop at the viewpoint below the imposing castle. Our next destination is the famous Loch Lomond which is part of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.  We travel through parts of the park before reaching the southern end where we make a leisurely stop at Loch Lomond Shores, which contains shops, eateries and excellent views of the loch looking to the north.

Heading north, it is time to start taking in some of the spectacular views of Ben Lomond before reaching the charming conservation village of Luss which is situated on the western banks of Loch Lomond.  We continue along the bonnie banks of the loch stopping this time at Tarbet for more photograph opportunities. Heading inland we drive along part of Loch Long, then start the climb up towards the Arrochar Alps which dominate the scenery. We have a photograph stop at the aptly named Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint. A stunning drive now awaits us as we proceed to Inveraray where Inveraray Castle (home to the Campbell Clan) will greet us as we enter the picturesque town nestled along Loch Fyne. Time is available to visit the Castle, Jail or even just wander around the town and take in the views and hopefully spot some of the wildlife.

Next up is Loch Awe as we head to Kilchurn Castle, a small walk will be involved to reach the castle. The castle lies on a rocky peninsula beside Loch Awe, due to high water levels, access to the castle is sometimes restricted which turns the site into a temporary island. Soon it will be time to head back to Edinburgh via Tyndrum and Loch Lubnaig, we can even stop to see some Highland cows and Doune Castle (this Castle has an early closing time and therefore we may be too late to enter, however we can still see it from the outside) before driving past the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle.
