Ayrshire and Rabbie Burns country
PERSONALISED DAY TOUR HIGHLIGHTS OF AYRSHIRE AND RABBIE BURNS COUNTRY:
- New Lanark
- Burns Museum
- Culzean Castle
New Lanark Mill
Leaving Edinburgh behind we travel past the Pentland Hill Regional Park towards our first stop, New Lanark. Sitting on the banks of the River Clyde, the cotton mill which is now an UNESCO world heritage site and village provides an insight into the industrial revolution. There is plenty of time here to explore this pocket of history tucked away in the Lanarkshire countryside.
We continue further west travelling through undulating country landscape before reaching the 'honest town' of Ayr, it is home to the Robert Burns Birthplace and Museum, where you can learn all about Scotland's most famous poet. The museum is within walking distance from Burns Cottage where he was born, the historic landmarks, the monument and gardens created in his honour and a modern museum housing the world’s most important collection of his life and works.
A short drive down the coast takes us to the majestic Culzean Castle dating from 1569. The castle, set atop a cliff with the grounds and gardens is a tranquil place to spend time taking in the scenery. Weather dependent, the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig should be visible as we head to Turnberry, home of Trump Turnberry Resort and glimpses of the famous Turnberry Lighthouse. Our journey back to Edinburgh takes us via Troon, containing Royal Troon Golf Club, which hosted The Open in 2016. The final part of our journey routes via Glasgow.
