Tour Description

The undulating topography of the Scottish Borders will see us wind through the hills taking in the panoramic vistas, visiting abbey's, castles, stately homes, quaint and charming towns and villages. Of course there is the 'border crossing' itself between Scotland and England. With so much to see in the Scottish Borders it's difficult to create a tour that will show your everything, however we have highlighted some our favourite attractions, places and views that will let you take great memories away. We will not be able to visit all the attractions, stately home and castles listed below, but it will give you an idea of what can be visited. If you would rather visit another location within the Scottish Borders, just contact us and we will try to incorporate your wishes.

Melrose Abbey

Melrose Abbey

A typical personalised day tour will see us depart Edinburgh southwards towards Lauder and the nearby Thirlestane Castle (Family home of the Duke of Lauderdale). Next is the town of Melrose and the stunning Melrose Abbey, plenty of time will be made available to visit the town and the monastery with museum which was the burial place of Robert the Bruce's heart. A short drive away located beside the River Tweed is Abbotsford (19th Century baronial home of Sir Walter Scott). Dryburgh Abbey (where Sir Walter Scott was buried) is nearby. The town of Jedburgh is located further south containing Jedburgh Abbey which was founded in 1138 and was a frequent target for invading border armies. The border crossing at Carter Bar is located a short drive away, this is a wonderful scenic drive as we climb to the border crossing. Another castle can be visited in the town of Kelso together with it's Abbey, then to the magnificent Floors Castle which was built for the Duke of Roxburgh in 1721. On our return to Edinburgh there is the possibility to stop at the scenic Scott's View with commanding views across parts of the Scottish Borders.
